The Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania has recognized Celli-Flynn Brennan along with Volpatt Construction for our work at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in the category of Excellence in Craftsmanship – Interior. In remarks made in the presentation of the award, Rev. James Tinnemeyer praised Volpatt Construction for their realization of Celli-Flynn Brennan’s design which integrated the new construction seamlessly with the historic existing structure. CFB is honored to receive this reward and thanks Shadyside Presbyterian and Volpatt Construction for working together to realize a design that was itself a collaboration with these team members. “Built in 1890, the historic Shadyside Presbyterian Church has experienced several significant additions over the years and all, including this most recent project, has been faithful to the Romanesque Revival style of architecture. What is particularly noteworthy is that this recently completed project now provides an eloquently enclosed connection of the sanctuary with the previous additions. This one year three phase project displays extraordinary craftsmanship as viewed in the stone work, flooring, and in the oak paneling, moldings, and doors. Of special note are the coffered ceiling in the Cloister, Atrium, and Parish Hall. Renovations of historic structures often lead to unforeseen conditions and this project was no exception. The careful attention to the challenges has enabled the seamless and extraordinarily successful joining of the new construction with the old. The jury applauds the superior quality of the work achieved by Volpatt Construction and their subcontractors.” George Ehringer, AIA, 2011 MBA Building Excellence Awards Jury.
