Taylor Allderdice High School | Physical Education Addition and Renovation
This building is The City of Pittsburgh’s major academic facility for 2,000 college bound students. The program called for a major gymnasium with 1,800 seats, new Olympic-size pool, locker and shower facilities and other areas for physical education, as well as major renovations to the existing building to provide new science labs, new library facilities, new cafeteria facilities, and new Vo-Tech shops.
The historic façade could not be interrupted by the addition of the new sports facility. By placing the new addition under the front yard, CFB was able to leave the historic façade untouched and develop a very economical and functional Physical education complex – all without increasing the boiler capacity!
The creative scheme developed by CFB resulted in a savings of $1 million while embracing the aesthetic and functional needs of the school board.
