Robert Morris University | Student Center and Fitness Facility
Moon Township, PA
The new 80,000 SF, $13.1 million Student Center for Robert Morris University was the focus project of a capital campaign following the master plan completed by CFB. The architecture responds to several key physical development issues on the campus. Difficult terrain, uncomfortable walking paths and a lack of campus focus are all issues that were addressed in the design. The building provides vertical transportation to move 900 residents up 60 vertical feet from the lower campus to the academic upper campus. The building includes a 450 seat dining space, health and fitness center, game rooms and TV lounges for the students living nearby.
The project also included a renovation of the library to which the student center is attached. New high tech classrooms, computer labs and presentation rooms were a part of the library renovation.
“Architecture as Logo” was a deliberate part of the building design. The Rotunda at the New Student Center has become the symbol of Robert Morris. The image now adorns the letterhead, business communications and other University publications.
CFB collaborated with Hospitality Services Inc. and Parkhurst Corporation to create a vibrant new cafe for Robert Morris University. The new 5,000 square foot cafe features an espresso bar, salad station, deli, soup and panini grille. It also includes a convenience store, casual seating for 125, flat screen TVs and a fireplace.
